Why Contoured Seats?
There's More To The BodyBilt Contoured Seat Than ShapeThe comfort of BodyBilt's most popular contoured seat design (#7-style) speaks for itself in sit-tests. It is by far the most comfortable seat pan for long term sitting but the passive ergonomic benefits of this masterpiece go much deeper than the shape of the surface because what’s inside, beneath the surface, is the foundation of the "BodyBilt Unique" difference.
Foam: Key Positioning, Layering and Densities
BodyBilt’s positioning of multiple layers of foam in varied densities and thicknesses reduce seated pressures where the highest pressure points of your seated posture can lead to discomfort. A recent independent study by The Ergonomic Center of North Carolina reveals research that has confirmed these benefits. The study proved that our contoured seat, when compared to flat seats, reduces seated pressure. The passive benefit of this surface contact-weight distribution comes from the wrap-around effect in the thigh area as it effectively disperses body weight and pressure.
In addition to the full coverage layer of foam (2" thick) there are two other unobtrusive, more dense layers of foam (½” thick) to absorb the highest pressure points of sitting. This high-density foam virtually eliminates “bottoming out” so common with the flat seat designs that let you down.
The Ischial Tuberosities, commonly called “sitting bones”, receive the benefit of this extra layer of dense foam (you know the bones we're talking about: the ones that get so uncomfortable when you sit on flat seats with too little foam padding).
BodyBilt also offers even greater seat softness with S'port foam (memory-type) in seat and back.
Two strategic, built-in, recessed areas:
BodyBilt's #7 seat also includes unique recessed areas not found on other chairs. The first combines with the foam layering for further assurance of "no bottoming out" because it's simply further down to the bottom. We call this large recess the “Ish-Dish” as it addresses the high impact of sitting on the Ischial Tuberosities. The second recessed area is at the back edge of the seat and creates the softest spot on the entire seat surface for the Coccyx (tail bone) area which can be a very sensitive spot.
BodyBilt Seats: Physics and Ergonomics So You Sit Better
It's easy to understand why the seat pan is the most crucial component of a comfortable and ergonomically functional chair. Whenever the seat becomes uncomfortable you begin to squirm, sit improperly and lose the benefits of other chair features. We are not flat-bottomed creatures so flat seats just don't fit. The longer you sit, the more uncomfortable a flat seat becomes, so get the BodyBilt difference. You only have one back so take care of yourself with a BodyBilt chair!
